This is the final post in the SKINsecurity Series and I can't stress enough how grateful I am for the support from all angles! By reading my most recent post on my journey with skin care and my friend Jeneque's post and by responding to my request for your stories, you're becoming a part of a movement! We share our stories and our tips and tricks so that each one can reach one and ultimately you know that you're really never alone in this thing called life and you can get advice and because of this thing they call the internet. *whew*
Now that my Miss Universe answer is complete, let's get into the real reason we're here!..which is to find out how some of you look so good! (by the way, special shout out to the OG Afro Wearing Miss Jamaica Star Davina Bennett). You should also read to the END because there's a pot of GOLD!
Several of you reached out to me with skin-care tips, a few of you with stories and trust me guys, the ones you're going to see below are very useful. I've included people with different skin types, different skin tones, both male and female! So, enough of my talking...happy reading, from you (my readers) to you (my readers).
1. GINA CHANG
exfoliate regularly, simple daily routine AND WATER ISSA MUST
I currently use a basic little neutrogena naturals scrub but I dont like to tell people use this product for sure because everyone's skin is SOOOO different but I have had success with the cornmeal in high school as well as sugar and olive oil as you know.
I swear by a simple daily routine because if it has too many steps or products I'll just get frustrated so a simple bar of soap (dove bar soap, dr bronners bar soap, pear) and moisturiser (neutrogena naturals moisturiser was good to me but I'm currently on oils: almond oil and rosehip seed. I COUNT THE DROPS SO I DONT LOOK LIKE THE OIL ITSELF LMAO. Three-Four drops exactly works). Once in the morning, once in the night.
PIMPLE TIP: DO NOT POP THEM. that's it
Toothpaste seems to work sometimes or a little tea tree oil but if I leave it a day or two it dries out. Picking that off is painless and scarless. My final tip is water and vitamins. YOU HAVE TO be moisturised & healthy from the inside like regular mutivitamin or b,c and cod liver to keep your system balanced and so your skin balanced
2. KADEEM WONG
There's baking soda and water. Mix to form a paste and apply as a mask. Leave it for like 5 mins and wash off. It's supposed to kill bacteria in the skin and it makes your skin look cool.
There's cornmeal and water as a facial scrub or cornmeal and lime which removes dead skin cells and tightens pores. Or after you use a regular scrub you can lightly dab the lime juice on your face to tighten pores (that's gonna sting by the way). Drinking aloe vera helps as well as water and lime. Use witch hazel as an astringent and you can also use rosemary in your routine!
3. COREY LINDNER
I use a hand glove to bathe with and Nivea in Shower Body Lotion. The hand glove helps to remove dead skin cells and Nivea helps to add back whatever essential oil would have been removed from my skin due to the exfoliation.
I exfoliate my face at least 3 times per week. I have a small scrubbing pad that I apply a clean and clear product to and then rub in circles. Finish this off with little less than a pea size of castor oil then I'm good. I drink aloe vera water that I make from scratch every now and again to remove toxins from my body!
4. JUTINA WILSON
The real skin MVPs are rose water and witch hazel! Shout out to Earth Elements and their tumeric and lime mask! I use that, followed by the witch hazel then rose water and the Ari Moisturizer from Dr. Yap.
Another hidden gem is a home made tumeric soap I got from a friend's Mom!
And because of all of this, my face is clearing up! Now I'm starting to see the true colour of my face and its matching my body now and my neck is coming along!
I started my skin journey because of my eczema/seborrhic dermatitis. My skin would literally break and I got tired of my reliance on prescriptions, home remedies, dietary changes and the like. To be honest, I would not say that I was embarrassed by the associated 'scales' which were a direct consequence of my eczema flaring up because I chose to drink milk that day or forgot to use the prescribed medication..BUT BY NO MEANS WAS I COMFORTABLE!
I used to wear make up back then but now since my regimen, I opt to go natural most days!
5. MONIQUE ADAMS
I had REALLY bad acne as a teenager (my friends actually used to call me concrete face). No cake soap, green bush (yes, actual bush), bush tea (yes, daddy gave me bush tea to drink), coconut milk (yes.. grater coconut coconut milk), Proactiv, Clean and Clear or Neutrogena could help me. I gave up on my skin and thought that I would be a crater faced tree monkey for the rest of my life. Never mind that sweets used to aggravate my already terrible acne. .
Clearasil Ultra literally changed my life. The next morning mommy grabbed my face and said, "weh di bump dem gone???" I kept using that line of products until my skin cleared up. I haven't had acne since high school, save for those times when my hormones are all over the place.
I eventually learned that drinking lots of water, staying moisturized and staying away from sweets is the key to my SKINsecurity. Thanks mommy! (and the lady at Joong who shaded me)
6. MACHU EZRA
My regime is: I drink a lot of water. I only drink soda/juice when I'm out and I barely eat sweets. I wash my face with raw soap sometimes and I recently been using organic apple cidar vinegar as an astringent!
7. CRYSTAL MASON
So after doing some research and real soul searching, I questioned myself – I dug deep, I spoke at length to some close friends about how I felt. This helped me decide to stop harping on the negative and instead focus on healing myself. I went to work for a whole week without makeup, a stunt I’m sure nearly gave my manager a heart attack since aesthetics are such a big part of my role.
I gave my skin some time to breathe, drank lots of water, exercised, listened to SZA’s ‘CTRL’ on repeat, and applied lots and lots of benzoyl peroxide. Needless to say, my acne did not disappear overnight, but my efforts have definitely not been in vain. Even more important, my confidence is still intact and possibly even stronger than before
THANK YOU ALL SOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THIS POST AND JUST SHARING! I think I'm gonna do this forum style of blogging more often because it provides several perspectives for one simple topic!
