5 Baking Soda DIYs for Grooming

Hey Guys!

It's always a pleasure to share DIYs with you and this week is no different. I know some readers are thinking "Baking Soda, what on Earth could he be writing about baking soda?". Well, this week I'm gonna show you how this simple kitchen item, which costs less than one US dollar, can be used to assist in transforming and enhancing your grooming/beauty regime.

If you look to the side of your baking soda package there are SO MANY bathroom and household tips for using the product, for example putting it in an open container in your fridge to reduce odours  or using it to clean grout in your bathroom. I'm gonna give you 5 tips on how to use baking soda for grooming purposes.

My grandmother would tell me that when your shoe smells, for whatever reason, a simple tip is to place it in the sun. This in fact works but baking soda not only speeds the process but also leaves behind residue which would make it more difficult for the odour to be trapped again, at least from my experiences.

What do you need? Just a teaspoon of baking soda. Place it in the shoe, shake it around and leave it in the sun. This makes a BIG difference.

I have a story for each and every one of these purposes lol. I was in Barbados sitting in rock pools with Jen, Chris and Rosa and my back was a MESS! Heat rash, Bacne, eczema EVERYTHING...and that's when Jen (as she used the salt water to soothe my back) suggested that I use baking soda once or twice a week on my back to combat the issues....and it worked!

You could take two approaches: Bathe with it (ie: wet skin, apply and rub in then wash off) or make a paste and place on the affected areas, allow to dry, leave overnight and rinse in the morning with warm water. Ps. The paste isn't as thick as so it dries almost clear.

I'll never forget the time in my life when Old Spice, Gillete and Degree stripped my underarm to nothing. I suppose they were too harsh. Anyway, I still had to go to school and be active and be respectful of those around me with a smell that was not...offensive. So, I went online and  there it was, baking soda.

My arm did not carry a great odour so I would throw some in my hand like baby powder and place it under my arm in its "dusty" state. I forgot it was under my arm but there was literally NO smell.

Okay, so most of us don't have the money to do professional teeth whitening. A good way to whiten your teeth in a gradual and safe way is...BAKING SODA! Here's the deal, it takes discipline and you will notice the results as it gets shades and shades lighter.

You have two options: 1. Use baking soda alone for the sole purpose of whitening (separate from brushing your teeth). I've used this option before..it's ALOT and the baking soda's taste is very overwhelming or 2. Sprinkle the baking soda on your toothpaste when brushing your teeth (kill two birds with one stone!)

This is my favourite (obviously). Just add water, create a paste (see texture above, as used on back), apply to face, wait on it to dry, rinse with warm water. Some folks use rose water instead of water, or lime juice but I'm fine with the water. Do it twice a week and you see the difference...I promise!

and that's it! Eaasy as ABC!
