As you would know by now, on Thursday I attended the fifth staging of the Collection Moda Fashion Show held at Spanish Court Hotel, Worthington Court. We already discussed my outfit and as promised, here is part 2! The event began at 7pm with cocktails sponsored by the Campari bar. This social and networking opportunity was one of the highlights of the event as Jamaica's creatives gathered to take photos, share ideas and exchange business cards. After 15 minutes of hustle bustle through the single entrance of the event, guests were seated in a beautifully decorated all-white space: The Runway!
The show began with an opening dance by the National Dance Theater Company: "Street Meets Studio" with a fusion between modern contemporary dance and hip-hop. Soon after, they announced the beginning of the fashion show! We saw designs from: Carlton Jones, Courteney Washington, Korto Momolu, Carlton Brown, Lisu Vega, Czar and Arina from Project Runway! The show was GREAT! I wish ...that there were more local designers but it was a good showing nonetheless. The OVERALL experience was greater to me than the actual show but I give it a 8/10!
I also attended Collection Moda Market on the weekend, I loved seeing the display of local artisans and was inspired to BE the best I could be as a young creative. My only concern was that patrons were not aware of the admission fee before the day of the event but that's just me picking at things.
OVERALL! A GREAT WEEKEND! Congratulations to the Collection Moda team on Year 5! Looking forward to next year! Enough talking, here are some highlights of the fashion show! All Photos by Alexander Wong!
